A few days ago, we got a call from Samuel Hong to discuss the possibility for a Sabotage commission piece for his new restaurant, a new Spanish Paella Bar, Bomba.
The Job was to create a highlight piece for the space standing a massive 3.5 meters tall. We accepted.
Myself and Mrs Sabotage gathered all our knowledge from sign painting and applied it to this massive piece, The only difference is that the scale is 10 times bigger than what we usually do.
We went all out for the past days and the result was something that we are extremely proud of on so many levels.
Please join us and Rosa for a meal at Bomba. No.38 Martin Rd.

Studio sessions: Me, the producer and the client .

Last night i decided that Monday will be my play day.
By that i mean a full on session at my studio creating and treating myself as the client.
It was a very empowering day indeed that led to so much more.
I left home with the intention to customize the new board that Ian Stewart gave me.
It was the perfect canvas for me to build this new setup that would fulfill my need to spec.
I wanted a skateboard that would be big enough to trick on with soft wheels for a daily ride that is in a special shape.
Perfect.

I arrived at the studio with my mind racing with quotes to add on the board. So many quotes with just one board to use. I was typing all the possible quotes on photoshop with a font that i think would express what type of skater i am. I referenced the font from the Blackflag logo while blasting the misfits. It was a perfect day.

Every time i set my mind with an objective i would always try to outdo myself. its like an addiction and i cant help myself. One of the rules i set for myself during these studio sessions is that i will have to complete whatever task i set out to do. No matter what it takes. It has to be done by the end of the day. And i did, not 1 but 3 boards.

During the production phase, i would start to map out the entire process with all the steps working backwards from the completed product, which was a painted board with a quote.

the steps
1. design and layout quote
2. mask the edges of the board
3. print out the design and cut the stencil
4. spray paint the base coat x 3 on board
5. spray on the design with stencil
6. varnish the design

Already mapping out these steps in my head, i looked at the time and realized that i could do more than 1 board!! I got greedy! and i raced with time.
I turned on my turbo production mode and started the mission.
There was absolutely no waiting time, I was constantly doing more than 2 things at a time.

While thinking of the quote and design i masked the edges of the board and sprayed on the first coat.
While the printer is printing, i sprayed the second coat.
While cutting the stencils i thought of the next 3 quotes.
While listening to the misfits i listened out for more quotes while i was cutting.
While cutting the stencils i was chatting on facebook and i sold a pair of shoes and a set of 4 boards.

At the end of the day i prepped 4 designs and finished 3 boards including 1 spontaneous design for my brother's birthday.
Griptaped my board, fixed on the trucks, went to get wheels, met up with my buddy tucks to go skate shopping and dinner.

What a day.

Growing up, the name Andy Warhol must have been one of the first impressions of what an artist was to me. Last week i finally has the opportunity to experience quite a big range of his work at the SIngapore Arts and Science museum with friends prior to our skate session.
It was great times with Ian and Luke, the father n son skate team who were in town from shanghai.
Mutual friends who spent the awesome evening together include Curly, Brian and son, Fynn. Great times !
It was quite a lot to absorb and digest for about an hour. However it did make quite an impact to me.

Enjoy the pics.

Aristocrats little tokyo & new eras

Sometime last year, we got invited to design a logo for our friends at Aristocrats located in San Jose. The objective was to create a strong symbol that would stand alone and identify it as a brand. To accompany was a strong logo type for people to read and make an impression.

A while ago, i caught a glimpse of the logo being applied at another level when Aristocrats opened up their new store in Little tokyo Los Angeles.

To add icing on the cake, they collaborated with New Era to make some fitted hats. To me, this is the ultimate payment. To see a vision come to physical form and beyond.

Cruiser shape research log 3: 5boro

Been riding my 5 boro cruiser that i purchased from Preduce for about 5 years now.
i got a Zip Zinger recently and realized that i prefer my 5 boros better still.
This log would be to identify its appeal that has been in my subconscious for the past 5 years.

This is the exact board that i have been riding since.

and i just realized that its almost the same as the supreme cruiser which is on the way to me.

I guess the reason i like it is because it still has natural curves that is close enough to our modern tech boards. Perhaps it is reshaped and tapered smaller based on a tech board so the board feel is more or less the same.
Which is a good thing because that is the type of skater that we are targeting.
It is also small enough to wanna carry around everyday yet big enough to feel confident to pop some ollies or even a kickflip.

I guess the most important factors are the board feel and the ride both physical and emotionally.
which brings me to how comfortable your daily ride is which is heavily attributed to the urethane on asphalt factor. The perfect softness for the most comfortable daily ride built for the big city.

Will talk about that more on a later post.
